Various priority roads closed over long weekend, next week: City

Drivers in Saskatoon will have to heed detours along some major routes over the September long weekend and into next week.

“Various priority one roadways will have closures and restrictions starting on Friday, September 4 until Tuesday, September 8, 2026,” according to the City of Saskatoon.

In addition to the Traffic Bridge closure between Saskatchewan Crescent and Spadina Crescent during the Nutrien Fireworks Festival, the city has listed three other priority roadways to be affected past Labour Day.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 8, 20th Street West will be closed between Avenue K South and Avenue H South for road work.

Water main work on Spadina Cres. East will close that road between 21st Street East and 22nd St. East from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 8.

A two-day closure will impact 12th St. East between Albert Avenue and Clarence Ave. South for sewer work. That stretch of roadway will begin at 9 a.m. on Sept. 8 and last until 5 p.m. on Sept. 9.

The city said closure end times are weather permitting and barring unforeseen circumstances. Detour signs will be in place and Saskatoon Transit may be affected by those detours.

Two-and-a-half-week closure beginning at 2nd Ave intersection

A lengthy closure at the 2nd Ave. and 25th St. intersection will also begin on Sept. 8.

The closure will relate to the work happening on the 25th St. water main lining project.

“Drivers should expect detours and delays in the area and are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted signage and use caution when travelling near the construction zone,” the city stated in a release, noting that the closure is weather dependent and “subject to change as work progresses.”

Idylwyld Drive ramp closure planned Tuesday and Wednesday nights

The southbound ramp from Idylwyld Drive North onto Avenue C will also be closed Tuesday, starting at 7 p.m., to allow for road resurfacing.

In a release, the city said the work is expected to take two nights to complete, meaning the closure and detours will be in place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, “weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances.”

The city said Saskatoon Transit may be affected by the closure and advised riders to check schedules and routes online.
