Road restrictions coming to Circle, Fourth, Spadina, Cumberland, Ruth

Drivers in Saskatoon may need to take a detour this week, with restrictions coming to several major roads around the city.

The City of Saskatoon said Cumberland Avenue will be closed between Adelaide Street and Bute Street on Thursday for crack sealing, with the work scheduled to occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Also on Thursday, Ruth Street East will be closed from Jarvis Drive to Blain Avenue from 8 a.m. on Thursday until 5 p.m. on Friday for sewer work.

The Circle Drive South on-ramp to Lorne Avenue will be closed for “microsurfacing” from 9 a.m. Friday to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Microsurfacing, a city spokesperson explained, involves applying a mixture of emulsified asphalt and aggregate to correct minor imperfections in an otherwise structurally sound road. The treatment creates a protective barrier and prevents water from infiltrating the asphalt, the city noted. This helps extend the life of the road and minimize the need for expensive treatments down the line.

Meanwhile, Spadina Crescent East will be closed from 20th Street East to Second Avenue South from 8 a.m. to midnight on both Friday and Saturday to accommodate the Nutrien Fireworks Festival.

Finally, Fourth Avenue South will be closed between 20th and 21st streets east from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday to make room for a crane lift.

“Closure end times are weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances,” the City of Saskatoon said in a statement.

Transit routes may be affected by the closures. Riders were encouraged to check schedules and service alerts online or through third-party apps.
