Police in Saskatoon have opened a homicide investigation after a 27-year-old man was found dead on Tuesday morning.
According to the Saskatoon Police Service, officers found the man’s body at around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday while conducting a welfare check at an apartment on 17th Street West. Police did not identify the man.

Police said an autopsy was conducted on Wednesday, which determined the man’s death to be a homicide.
Anyone with information that could help further the investigation was encouraged to contact police or make a report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
Police said the case marks the city’s ninth homicide investigation of 2026.

Karan Kang is a resident in the area and said he has noticed a police presence, including a police car that stayed overnight.
“I just found out the body was found inside one of the apartments,” he told CKOM News. “I don’t have any idea what’s happening around the area. It’s scary.”
Kang said this is the second time he’s aware of someone being found seriously injured or dead near the building. He said the latest incident feels more frightening because the victim was found dead in an apartment.
“This area is kind of sketchy for the last few years,” he said. “Especially in the nighttime, like after nine, it gets scary.”
In March 2023, 54-year-old Aaron Gamble’s body was found in a dumpster in an alley in the 2300 block of 17th Street West. Officers believe foul play was involved in Gamble’s death.
Since then, video footage has been released showing three people of interest placing a large container into the dumpster. No arrests have been made in connection with the death.
Previous homicide investigations in 2026
The first homicide investigation of 2026 was related to a 25-year-old man with stab wounds who died at St Paul’s Hospital on Feb. 3. An 18-year-old man was charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault on Feb. 7. His charges were later downgraded on Feb. 27 to being an accessory after the fact to manslaughter, accessory after the fact to aggravated assault, public mischief and obstruction of justice.
The second homicide case of 2026 saw a man die after a shooting in the 900 block of 22nd Street West on March 14. A 17-year-old boy was charged on March 17 with second-degree murder, using a firearm while committing an indictable offence and possessing a firearm while prohibited.
The city’s third homicide investigation of the year began after a 61-year-old woman died in a house fire in the 400 block of Avenue I South on April 3. No arrests have been made.
The fourth killing of 2026 was a 39-year-old man who died in hospital after being found unresponsive on Avenue X South just before 4 a.m. on April 6. Police have made no arrests.
A suspicious death investigation after Saskatoon police found a body in an apartment on the 1100 block of Avenue W North on April 15, was then upgraded to a homicide, police said on April 27, making it the city’s fifth homicide investigation of the year. A teenager is facing a charge of murder in connection with that case.
Saskatoon Police Service said the death of 55-year-old Wray Musqua, who was found unresponsive in 2200 block of 22nd Street on April 24 and died in hospital on April 25 was the city’s sixth homicide case of 2026.
The city’s seventh homicide investigation of the year saw a 42-year-old woman charged with second-degree murder after the body of 77-year-old Dory Cook was found inside a Pleasant Hill home on May 3.
Saskatoon’s eighth homicide investigation of 2026 began on July 30 when police said a 24-year-old man died after being found injured in the 200 block of Avenue V South.
Saskatoon police investigated eight homicides in 2025.
