A 21-year-old man was found at the scene with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries “consistent with an assault,” according to police.
“Officers learned the victim entered the apartment building when he was confronted by two unknown males, one of which brandished what appeared to be a firearm. The two suspects then assaulted the victim and robbed him of multiple items,” the police force said in a statement.
At the scene, an officer noticed a door to an apartment was damaged, leading to police discovering that someone had broken in. Police said the break in is believed to be connected to the alleged assault and robbery.
A vehicle matching the description of what the suspect’s vehicle was spotted by police soon after. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but said the suspect “fled at a high rate of speed.”
Officers continued to follow the vehicle as it sped away before “disengaging to ensure road safety.”
At around 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, officers spotted the vehicle again, sitting unoccupied in the 100 block of Cavers Street. The vehicle was searched, and police found ammunition, a handgun grip, a hammer and various ski masks inside.
Anyone with information that could help the investigation was asked to contact Saskatoon police or make a report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
Assault charges laid against teen
A stabbing on Saturday morning led to assault charges against a 17-year-old boy.
Police were called to the 100 block of Second Avenue North at around 2:20 a.m. on Friday after receiving a report that a person had been injured.
“Dispatch information indicated that a man had been stabbed,” according to a release from Saskatoon police.
Police said the suspect took off on foot when the officers arrived, but he was arrested “without incident shortly after.”
The 19-year-old victim was also found by police, with non-life-threatening injuries which police said were consistent with a stabbing. Paramedics treated his injuries and transported him to hospital for further care.
“As a result of this investigation, the 17-year-old male youth has been charged with assault causing bodily harm,” police said in a statement.
