Saskatoon traffic alert: Resurfacing on 22nd Street West starts Monday

Saskatoon drivers may want to reconsider their routes next week if they involve going along 22nd Street West.

Starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, resurfacing work will begin on the westbound lanes of 22nd Street, stretching from Idylwyld Drive to Avenue I North.

The work will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., lasting roughly six days, according to the City of Saskatoon.

During the resurfacing, only one westbound lane will remain open. Eastbound traffic won’t be affected, “aside from temporary restrictions to left-turn lanes,” the city said.

Additional detours

Drivers are already contending with several road closures in Saskatoon ahead of Monday.

On Thursday, 21st Street East is closed from Third Avenue South to Fourth Avenue South for the city’s All in a Day event. That closure runs until 5 p.m.

The city said Avenue W South is closed at the intersection with 21st Street West for sewer work. The closure started at 7 a.m. on Thursday and runs until 5 p.m. on Friday.

On Friday, McCormack Road will close between Borland Place and Whitecap Crescent for resurfacing work. That closure kicks off at 7 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Finally, Spadina Crescent will be closed from 22nd Street East to 24th Street East over the weekend for the annual Step Up Marathon. Closures start at 6 p.m. on Friday and end at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

“Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists around the areas,” the City of Saskatoon said in a statement.

“The City thanks everyone for their patience.”

The city noted that Saskatoon Transit routes may be affected by the closures. Transit riders were advised to check service alerts and third-party apps for the latest updates.
