The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) has now confirmed three tornadoes and a downburst in southern Saskatchewan last weekend.
An investigation by NTP damage survey teams has led to tornadoes at Speers, Redberry Lake and Petrofka-Waldheim being assigned an EF1 rating. The downburst at Rosthern has been rated as an EF0.
The Enhanced Fujita Scale (EF) is used to rank tornado severity, with EF0 being the lowest ranking and EF5 considered the worst.

The Speers tornado was classified as an over land Tornado that started at 3:25 p.m. on July 10.
The project said damage was reported in the area after a storm passed through. No injuries were reported.
A ground and drone survey was completed from July 11-12 to document the reported damage, including damage to “several farm properties south and east of the community,” the project reported.
It is estimated the tornado reached a maximum wind speed of 150 kilometres per hour, tracked nearly eight km and its path had a width of just over 1 km. The tornado’s motion was from the west.
In Redberry Lake, the tornado began around 4:05 p.m. on July 1o, also classified as an over land tornado.

“Damage to trees and a home and garage at a residential property was reported east of Redberry Lake after a storm passed through the area,” the NTP reported.
It surveyed the damage by ground and drone on July 13. Reported damage and additional tree damage was documented.
This tornado, too, had an estimated maximum wind speed of 150 km/h. It is estimated to have tracked just over six km with a path width of 760 metres. The tornado’s motion was from the west south west.
The Petrofka-Waldheim over land tornado on July 10 began at 4:21 p.m.
“Witnesses captured video and photos that developed south of Petrofka and tracked eastward to Waldheim,” the project reported, adding that no injuries were reported but damage to residential and business properties, power poles, trees and vehicles was.
Damage was surveyed by the project on July 12-13, on the ground and by drone, capturing reported and additional damage.
This tornado was estimated to have had a maximum wind speed of 175 km/h, a track length of 24,6 kilometres and a maximum path width of 950 metres, with its motion from the west.
In Rosthern, a downburst began on July 10 at 4:45 p.m.
There was damage to trees and several structures in and around Rosthern, reported after the storm. No injuries were reported.
On July 14, the NTP completed ground and drone surveys of the reported damaged. The maximum wind speed of the downburst was about 130 km/h and “intermittent damage” was found across an area just over seven kilometres long and just over six kilometres wide.
Additional events from July 10 and 11 storms in Saskatchewan will be published as results are finalized, the NTP noted online.
