Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Steven Beatty, a resident of Timber Bay. His family has been notified of his death, the RCMP said.
The Mounties said Beatty’s death was considered suspicious, and the Saskatchewan RCMP’s homicide unit quickly took over the investigation.
On Wednesday, the RCMP said Trent Thomas John Bird, 19, is now facing a manslaughter charge in connection with Beatty’s death, and asked the public to be on the lookout for him.
Police described Bird as five-foot-eight, weighing 110 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He has a tattoo on his right calf that includes the number 420, along with a rocket ship and a star.
“Trent Thomas John Bird is known to travel to the Prince Albert area, but his current whereabouts are unknown,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“If you see Trent Thomas John Bird, do not approach him.”
Anyone who spots Bird was advised to contact police or make a report anonymously through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
