The City of Saskatoon is asking drivers to be extra cautious on the roads as construction season gets into full swing.
The city said road workers are out repairing potholes, maintaining water mains, upgrading power systems and improving local infrastructure, often in close proximity to traffic.

“These areas aren’t inconveniences to pass through quickly, they’re active job sites where people are doing skilled, often high-risk work,” the city said in a statement. “Every worker is someone’s someone.”
The city advised drivers to expect construction sites to pop up in any place, including roadways, sidewalks, alleys and utility corridors, at any time of day. Drivers were reminded to slow down and stay focused to avoid any crashes, and to respect posted signs and directions.
“Behind every work zone are people doing their jobs to help improve our community. They’re someone’s parents, partners, children and friends, and many are working just feet away from moving vehicles and heavy equipment for hours at a time,” Terry Schmidt, the city’s general manager of transportation and construction, said in a statement.
“When drivers rush, become distracted or are inattentive, the consequences can be serious and put the safety of others at risk. Slowing down and following the guidance in place is one of the simplest ways we can help ensure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day.”
