The victim of a home invasion in Saskatoon chased the perpetrators out of the house with their own machete on Thursday afternoon, police said.
According to police, officers were called to a home on Weldon Avenue in the city’s King George neighbourhood, shortly before 2 p.m.
Police said a group of people broke into the home while armed with a machete and threatened the occupants while attempting to steal items from the home.

“Through investigation, officers determined that, during the break and enter, a struggle had occurred between the suspects and one of the victims resulting in the victim obtaining the machete and chasing all but one of the suspects away; the remaining suspect was arrested without further incident upon police arrival,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
The one suspect who was arrested, a 40-year-old woman, is facing a break-and-enter charge. Police said the case remains under investigation.
Two offsale workers injured in armed robbery
Two workers at an offsale liquor store on Fairlight Drive were injured during an armed robbery on Thursday morning.
Police said two men entered the store shortly after 2 a.m. One of the men, who was wearing a mask, attempted to steal alcohol before a staff member confronted him.
“The suspect then deployed bear spray, injuring the staff member and his coworker. The two suspects fled the scene,” police said.
“The staff members were treated at the scene for injuries consistent with the effects of bear spray.”
Anyone with information that could help the investigation was encouraged to contact police or make a report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
Man facing charges after allegedly fleeing from cops in stolen vehicle
Police said a 38-year-old man was arrested on Thursday afternoon after allegedly fleeing from police at high speed in a stolen vehicle.
According to police, officers got a report about a vehicle that was stolen from the area of 33rd Street West and Avenue H North at around 1 p.m.
“The stolen vehicle was reported to have been observed colliding with three other vehicles while driving in the area,” the police force said.
“Responding officers located the vehicle at 33rd Street West and Avenue B North where a traffic stop was attempted; the vehicle did not stop for police and evaded at a high rate of speed.”
Police said the officers backed off while keeping the vehicle in sight until the driver pulled into a parking lot on Idylwyld Drive North where he was arrested.
He’s now facing charges of motor vehicle theft, dangerous driving, evading police, impaired driving, failing to comply with a breath demand, theft under $5,000, breaching court-ordered conditions and three counts of hit and run.
