According to an earlier release from Corman Park Police Service (CPPS), an officer tried to stop the Durango shortly before 9 a.m. due to a “manner-of-driving complaint.” Corman Park police said the vehicle was travelling southbound on Highway 11 and fled from the officer after his emergency equipment was turned on.
“The CPPS officer disengaged, and the vehicle continued southbound before crossing the median into oncoming northbound traffic. The suspect vehicle struck a northbound vehicle, which subsequently caught fire,” police said in the release.
The Corman Park officer was also taken to Royal University Hospital “as a precaution.”
The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) was notified about the incident and is now investigating.
“The CPPS will not be commenting further on this matter, and any questions regarding the investigation may be directed to S.I.R.T.,” Corman Park police said in the release.
“As the investigation continues, motorists are asked to please use an alternate route,” Saskatoon police said in its release, noting that further updates will be shared with the public when available.
