Police said the man was in the area of 20th Street and Avenue Q when he was approached by a group of people who asked him for cigarettes. When he turned them down, police said he was stabbed.
About an hour later, police were called to Avenue D North for a report of an injured man.
“Officers arrived on scene and located a 61-year-old man with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
“He was transported to hospital by paramedics for further medical care.”
Police said officers found and arrested a man who matched the description of the suspect in both cases in the 800 block of Avenue E North. He was carrying a knife at the time of his arrest, police said.
The 30-year-old man is now facing two charges of aggravated assault, along with additional weapons-related charges and a charge of obstruction.
