A Saskatoon man is facing a number of charges after Saskatoon police say he evaded and assaulted officers on Monday night.
An attempted traffic stop on a stolen vehicle on April 20 turned into a chase around 10:30 p.m., when the vehicle – which was at the intersection of 21st Street West and Avenue P South – began to evade police, according to a Saskatoon police news release.

At the same time, “another vehicle which was determined to have a falsely displayed license plate also evaded police,” the release stated.
Both vehicles drove to the intersection of 11th Street West and Avenue P South. There, police successfully used a tire-deflation device on both vehicles, which still proceeded to drive away, but in different directions.
Police said one vehicle stopped at 17th Street West and Avenue H South. There, Saskatoon police initiated a high-risk traffic stop, but the vehicle began to drive backwards towards police and almost hit officers and a patrol car.
“The vehicle then continued to evade at high rate of speed at points driving into oncoming traffic and attempting to make contact with patrol vehicles,” police said.
The vehicle was eventually stopped by officers, though the driver resisted arrest. Police said he assaulted an officer before the 31-year-old was arrested.
When police searched his vehicle, the release stated ammunition was found. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Yorkton, police learned in their investigation.
The man is facing a laundry list of charges, including four counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, dangerous driving, evading police, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
Police said he was also wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for breaching statutory release.
The second vehicle was found unoccupied, parked and running later by police. It was in the 200 block of Avenue N South.
“Through further investigation, officers learned the vehicle had been reported stolen following a break and enter to a business in the 800 Block of 43rd Street East days prior.”

Officers found the man quickly, according to another release from Saskatoon police. He was found with non-life-threatening injuries and taken to hospital by paramedics.
Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
