A large stretch of sunshine, blue skies and dry weather is needed after southeast Saskatchewan was hit with severe weather Friday evening.
Environment Canada told News Talk Radio around 100 millimeters, or four inches, of rain fell in some spots. For some living in the small community of Lampman – 43 kilometres northeast of Estevan – Saturday morning saw flooded basements, yards and streets.
Aaron Fornwald lives in Lampman and admits he is lucky because his basement never floods. It was a different story elsewhere on his property though, which in some spots was drenched with knee-deep water. As of Saturday evening, Fornwald had two pumps removing the water.
It’s a similar scene throughout much of Lampman.
“There’s a lot of flooding in a lot of different sections and unfortunately a lot of homes with water in their basements,” Fornwald said.
By Saturday evening, much of the water sitting in the streets and on people’s yards had receded.
This recent dumping of rain isn’t anything new to that area. Fornwald guesses they have seen around 13 inches of rain so far this summer, which he says is quite a bit.
When asked if they need more rain, Fornwald responded, “no, definitely not.”
