People in McLean are shocked by the murder that happened there this weekend – not because they knew the victim very well, but because something so gruesome happened in the quiet little village.
RCMP say the body of Lisa Strang, 47, was found in a home in McLean late Saturday night where she lived with her partner, John Strang. RCMP would not confirm whether the two were married.
The house stood out on the quiet street on Tuesday because of the yellow police tape strung around the property, not to mention the police vehicles, officers, and forensic technicians moving in and around the home.
The small brown house is the only one on the block with a high fence around the front, obscuring the front yard from view.
Susan Rostad lives across the street.
“Just that it even happened, I think everybody’s still in shock about everything.”
Elaine Wiest lives just down the block from the Strang home. She said everyone was surprised when they heard about the murder.
“Of course, in McLean you wouldn’t think that would ever happen around here.”
Neighbours said no one in the town really knew Strang, except for an occasional greeting at the post office.
Wiest said she didn’t know much about Strang. She surmised that Strang worked in the city because she was dressed up for work every day. Wiest said she would have said maybe “hi” and “goodbye.”
“They were kind of to themselves … most people are nowadays.”
Those who did know Strang through her work with the Sask. Party called her “amazing” and “bubbly.”
John Strang was arrested on Monday, and charged with first degree murder in Lisa Strang’s death.
