Saskatoon police briefs: Woman charged after allegedly stabbing man

Police in Saskatoon responded to two separate stabbings over the weekend, with the first incident happening on Saturday morning and the second happening just after midnight on Monday.

In the first incident, police were called to Montreal Avenue South, in the city’s Meadowgreen neighbourhood, at around 6:10 a.m. on Saturday after getting a report that a man had been stabbed by a woman.

“Arriving officers located and arrested a 23-year-old woman. A 31-year-old man was also located and observed to have what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries consistent with an assault with a knife,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.

“He was transported to hospital for further medical treatment.”

Police said the woman is facing charges of breaking and entering, assault with a weapon and breaching court-imposed conditions, and was also found to be wanted on outstanding warrants.

The suspect and the victim are believed to be known to each other, police noted.

Man stabbed on Avenue M

In the second incident, police were called to Avenue M South, in Saskatoon’s Pleasant Hill neighbourhood, for a report of an assault at around 12:20 a.m. on Monday.

“Arriving officers located a 41-year-old man with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing,” police said in a statement.

“He was transported to hospital by paramedics for further medical treatment.”

Police said a 43-year-old man was arrested at the scene, “but he was later released pending further investigation.”

The police force asked anyone with information on the incident to get in touch with the Saskatoon Police Service or make a report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Man left with serious injuries after assault: Police

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Saturday morning after allegedly assaulting a man, leaving him with serious injuries.

Police said officers were called to Hamm Way, in the city’s Rosewood neighbourhood, shortly before 7 a.m. after getting a report of a disturbance. According to police, the caller said “it sounded like someone was being assaulted” inside a basement suite.

“Upon police arrival, officers located two females and a male youth attempting to leave the residence,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.

“Officers also located a 26-year-old man who was transported to hospital by paramedics for what were believed to be serious injuries. The victim and suspect are believed to be known to each other.”

Police said the 16-year-old boy was arrested, and he’s now facing a charge of aggravated assault.

Police seek information after pedestrian seriously hurt in crash Friday

Police in Saskatoon are appealing to the public for information on a crash that left a pedestrian seriously injured on Friday night.

According to police, officers were called to the crash scene on Eighth Street East after getting a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

“Arriving officers located a 23-year-old woman with what were believed to be serious injuries. She was transported to hospital by paramedics for further medical treatment,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.

“Officers also learned that the vehicle involved in the collision did not remain on scene.”

According to police, a 19-year-old man called the police shortly after the crash, saying he was the driver of the vehicle. He was arrested, police said, but was later released “pending further investigation.”

The police force asked anyone with information on the crash to get in touch with police or make a report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
