Four arrested after allegedly fleeing from cops in stolen vehicles
Four people were arrested on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning after allegedly fleeing from police in stolen vehicles.
In the first incident, police said a 29-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday night after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop “at a high rate of speed.”
According to police, officers tried to pull over the driver of a stolen vehicle near Rusholme Road and Avenue S North at around 11 p.m. After the driver allegedly took off, police said a tire-deflation device was used to stop the vehicle on Palliser Court, where the driver was arrested without further incident.
He’s now facing charges of evading police, dangerous driving and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
In the second incident, police said officers spotted a stolen vehicle in the area of 18th Street West and Avenue X South just after 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.
“As officers were attempting to confirm the license plate of the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed near 22nd Street West and Circle Drive; however, the vehicle continued to evade before colliding with a tree and rolling at Milton Street,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
“All three occupants were arrested without further incident.”
Police said the 28-year-old man who was allegedly behind the wheel was charged with evading police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and breaching court-imposed conditions, and was also wanted on three separate warrants. Two passengers – a 35-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man – were also charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000.
