Two men facing charges after allegedly attacking Saskatoon cop during arrest

A Saskatoon police officer was allegedly assaulted by two men while making an arrest on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, officers responded to a report of an assault in the 1600 block of Avenue B North. Police said the officers recognized a man who was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants and attempted to take him into custody.

The man kicked one of the officers in an attempt to get away, police said, while a second man discharged bear spray in the direction of the officers.

The first man was arrested at the scene, while the man who allegedly discharged the bear spray was arrested on Monday, police said.

Both 33-year-old men face several charges and were scheduled to make their first court appearances on Monday.

Woman charged after allegedly attacking man with knife

A 32-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly stabbing a man on Saturday evening.

According to the Saskatoon Police Service, officers were called to Dunlop Street, in the city’s Forest Grove neighbourhood, just after 11 p.m. after getting a report of an incident involving a knife.

“Arriving officers located a man with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing,” the police force said in a statement.

“A woman was arrested on scene without further incident.”

Police said the victim and the alleged attacker knew each other and noted that the woman is now facing charges of aggravated assault and breaching court-imposed conditions.

Man charged after allegedly threatening Saskatoon workers with Airsoft gun

A 36-year-old man found himself in handcuffs on Thursday after allegedly threatening staff members at a business on Eighth Street East in Saskatoon with an Airsoft pistol.

According to police, an officer was inside the business “on another matter” at around 9:30 p.m. when staff members reported that a man who had just left had threatened them with a gun.

“The male was quickly located outside and found to be in possession of a knife. An air soft pistol was found on the ground beside him,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.

“He was taken into custody without incident and found to have firearm prohibitions from Saskatoon, Buffalo Narrows, Warman and Grand Cache, Alberta.”

Police said the man is facing two charges of possession of a dangerous weapon “and a number of firearm related charges.”

Police use plane, tire deflation device to catch dangerous drivers

Police in Saskatoon used a plane and a tire deflation device to catch two people who were allegedly driving dangerously over the weekend.

In the first incident, police said officers spotted a truck “driving in an aggressive manner” on 33rd Street near Avenue I North at around 9:20 p.m. Sunday.

“As officers pulled up to the vehicle in the area of Avenue Y North and Marlborough Crescent, it fled at a high rate of speed,” police said in a statement.

Officers in a plane overhead monitored the vehicle, and police said the airborne officers saw a man leave the truck and run away. He was arrested a short time later and is now facing charges of dangerous driving, evading police, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

Police did not provide details about the allegedly stolen property or the alleged collision.

In the second incident, police said officers attempted to stop a vehicle for an unspecified reason at 20th Street West and Avenue R at about 2 a.m. Monday.

“The vehicle did not stop for police and began to drive away and was observed disobeying multiple red lights,” the police force said in a statement.

“The Air Support Unit was able to follow the vehicle and patrol officers successfully deployed a tire deflation device at the intersection of 33rd Street and Idylwyld which resulted in the vehicle being disabled as it approached the 51st Street off-ramp.”

Police said two occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot, but they were both quickly arrested without further incident.

According to police, a 28-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were each charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and breaching court-imposed conditions, while the woman was also charged with dangerous driving and evading police.

Once again, police did not provide details about the allegedly stolen property.
