A five-month infrastructure project starting this week will cause significant traffic disruptions on 25th Street East and 4th Avenue in downtown Saskatoon.
The City of Saskatoon said in a news release on June 15 the project involves water main, sewer, and road work on 25th Street East from Spadina Crescent East to 1st Avenue North, as well as on 4th Avenue between 24th and 25th streets.

The city says the project will be done in phases, starting with temporary water main construction work this week. That work is expected to take two weeks.
The second phase will begin the week of June 29 when the water main on 4th Avenue from 24th Street to 25th Street will be replaced. This will close the intersection of 4th Avenue and 24th street for around three weeks, the city said.
Phase three will see the city installing a new storm sewer on 4th Avenue from 24th Street to 25th Street. That work is expected to begin on the week of July 13 with the city saying it has a tentative completion date of mid-August.
Work on the 25th Street water main will begin on Aug. 3 and last for approximately 12 weeks, the city said.
Temporary water service will be provided to affected properties during the construction.
The city said that once temporary water lines are installed, access to roads and driveways within the work zone will be restricted, and pedestrian detours may be needed. The city said it would include “accessibility considerations” where needed.
One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction where possible, the city said, but motorists shoud expect delays. Parking will also be affected at times, with on-street and adjacent lot parking unavailable during certain stages of construction.

This season motorists in the city have already endured construction work on McOrmond Drive between Kerr Road and Addison Road, resurfacing work on Highway 7, the closure of Acadia Drive between Taylor Street E and Avondale Road, and on University Bridge along with College Drive between Clarence Avenue and Hospital Drive.
The city has said University Bridge is expected to reopen during the week of June 29.
