650 CKOM and 980 CJME are in the finals of the Best Newscast category at the Radio Television Digital News Association Canada’s (RTDNA) annual awards.
650 CKOM’s entry was a newscast from November of 2025, the morning after the Saskatchewan Roughriders won the Grey Cup. The broadcast featured reporters in Winnipeg, Saskatoon and along Regina’s Green Mile as fans and the team celebrated.
The broadcast also featured a guilty verdict in a well-known Saskatchewan cold case.
For 980 CJME, it was a newscast from March 2025, the morning of the fire and explosion at the Regina refinery that left two workers hurt. All this unfolded while another reporter simultaneously covered an unrelated fire elsewhere in the city.
That same coverage is singled out in the Breaking News category as 980 CJME kept listeners and readers up to date as the story developed throughout that morning as Regina’s fire chief and the Co-op confirmed what happened.
The association also recognized the collective efforts of our two teams as finalists in the News – Special Live Events award with 650 CKOM’s nearly five-hour federal election night broadcast, and 980 CJME in the same category for the post-game Green Zone broadcast the night of the Riders Grey Cup victory.
The RTDNA has also recognized individual members of our news team.
Brittany Caffet’s work on the Turtle Lake Monster was nominated in the Feature News – Digital category, and her three-part series The Remarkable Klara Belkin was a finalist in the Best Podcast category, while Britton Gray’s curling feature on two sisters from Saudi Arabia was shortlisted in the Excellence in Sports Reporting category.
The winners will be announced in the fall.
