The ice-skating loop at Echo Valley Provincial Park will open for the season later this month.
Skate the Park will open for the season on Dec. 26, weather permitting, letting visitors skate the winding loop through the Aspen Campground under twinkling lights, with a warming shelter available to give skaters a break from the cold.

“When the sun goes down, the path is illuminated, creating a magical setting for a night skate,” Tourism Saskatchewan said.
“Skate the Park is free to enjoy with a valid park entry permit and you will need to bring your own skates.”
The skating loop will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, with the hours extended to 7 p.m. on Fridays. The loop is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays and holidays.
There are plenty of other opportunities to get out and enjoy the outdoors at provincial parks during the winter months, with many offering showshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, tobogganing, ice fishing and more.
Some parks provide showshoe rentals, the provincial government noted, and many parks offer dining options, unique accommodations for visitors, and even saunas.
The provincial government noted that winter camping options are available at five parks: Blackstrap, Duck Mountain, Echo Valley, Pike Lake and Rowan’s Ravine until March 16, and visitors can also reserve sites in other parks.
Echo Valley Provincial Park features three “camp easy yurts,” which are heated by propane and sleep up to six people. Other options for overnight stays include luxury glamping, resorts, cabins and hotels.
A park entry permit is required to visit Saskatchewan’s provincial parks. Annual permits, which are valid until April 30, are currently available at a discounted rate of $45, the provincial government said.
