Drivers in Saskatoon’s core will have some different traffic restrictions to worry about in the coming days, as the city’s downtown water main project continues.
“Crews are continuing intersection excavation, restoration work and preparations for roadway resurfacing,” the City of Saskatoon said in a statement.

The city said the intersection of Second Avenue North and 25th Street East has fully reopened, and the intersection of Sixth Avenue North and 25th Street is now open to westbound traffic, though restrictions remain in place in the eastbound lanes.
On Friday, the intersection of Fifth Avenue North and 25th Street East will close to traffic, and the city said that closure is expected to last until Oct. 30.
The intersections of 25th Street East and First, Third and Fourth avenues remain closed, but the city said it expects the intersection of First and 25th to reopen to traffic on Oct. 20, with the other two expected to open up on Oct. 23.
“As intersections reopen, some lane restrictions may remain while crews complete restoration work. Final roadway resurfacing on 25th Street will take place following completion of the remaining construction work,” the city said in a statement.
“The final phase of the project will include a water main replacement on 25th Street between 6th Avenue and Spadina Crescent. This work is anticipated to be completed in 2026; however, it may extend into 2027 depending on construction progress and weather conditions.”
The city noted that Saskatoon Transit may be affected by the downtown detours, and encouraged riders to check service alerts and third-party apps for the latest information.
