A hotel break and enter in Prince Albert led to a high risk, critical incident on Thursday, leading to the recovery of several stolen items, police said.
On Wednesday, Prince Albert police advised the public of “increased police presence” in the 900 block of Second Street East. Traffic restrictions were in place at the time and people were asked to avoid the area.
The police service said on Thursday evening that a 30-year-old man had been arrested in connection with a break and enter at a hotel on Sept. 2.

According to police, officers received a report of the incident at a hotel in the 300 block of 38th Street West around 1:43 p.m. on Wednesday.
“An RCMP member reported that a firearm and other police equipment had been stolen from a hotel room,” police said in a news release.
The police service’s crime reduction team reportedly identified a man as a suspect in the case and found him at a home on Second Street East.
“The event was deemed high risk, categorized as a critical incident, and specialized resources were called to assist. They deployed to manage the incident resulting in a controlled surround-and-call-out,” police said.
Children and adults were able to safely leave the home, assisted by Prince Albert Mobile Crisis. The 30-year-old man then surrendered to police and was taken into custody.
Police executed a search warrant at the home. A search of the hotel area by Prince Albert Police Service and RCMP officers led to the recovery of “many stolen items,” police said.
The 30 year old has been charged with break and enter with intent and breach of a release order. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday. A 42-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the hotel room theft, and is charged with break and enter with intent. The 42 year old appeared in court on Sept. 3.
“Police are working to identify additional suspects and recover any remaining police equipment,” Prince Albert police stated.
The investigation remains ongoing. Various units within the Prince Albert Police Service were in involved in the investigation, as well as the Saskatchewan RCMP’s emergency response team, negotiators, crime reduction team, proactive policing unit and forensic identification section.
