A crash on Highway 16 claimed the life of a 78-year-old woman from Maidstone on Monday.
According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, officers got a report about the two-vehicle collision involving a car and an SUV at the intersection of the highway and Range Road 3273, west of Marshall, Sask., at around noon.

“The driver and sole occupant of the SUV was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. She has been identified as a 78-year-old female from Maidstone, SK. Her family has been notified,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“The driver and sole occupant of the car was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.”
Police said that while officers were controlling traffic at the scene, a truck and a motorcycle collided on the highway.
“The involved individuals were assessed by EMS at the scene and did not report serious injuries to police,” the Mounties said. “The driver of the truck was issued a ticket for following too closely.”
Highway 16 was closed during the initial investigation, but the RCMP said the route has since been reopened to traffic.
The crash remains under investigation, police said, with help from a collision reconstruction expert.
“As of August 11 at 8:30 a.m., Saskatchewan RCMP reports there have been 55 fatal collisions with 68 fatalities on roadways policed by the Saskatchewan RCMP in 2026,” the Mounties noted.
