Some priority roads are closing over the weekend, and a main stretch of roadway will be closed overnight while work is done on it for next week or so.
The City of Saskatoon is alerting people to the impacts these construction projects might have on their commute around the city in the coming days.
Most of the projects affecting priority roadways will have closures and restrictions beginning on Sat, July 18, through to Mon, July 20.

The Highway 16 northbound overpass will be closed between Idylwyld Drive and Marquis Drive for bridge washing from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. for bridge washing.
Beginning on Saturday, the medial lane on Circle Drive East heading northbound will be closed from College Drive to Preston Avenue for overnight road resurfacing work. That closure will run from 7 p.m. through 6 a.m., daily, starting on Saturday. Work is anticipated to be completed by Tuesday morning.
On Sunday, between 5 a.m. and 12 p.m., the Idylwyld Drive northbound curb lane and exit to Ruth Street ramp will be closed due to streetlight maintenance.
Confederation Drive’s northbound and southbound median lanes will be closed from 22nd Street West to Laurier Drive for road patching on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On Monday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., water main work on 20th Street West will see that street closed from Ottawa Avenue to Montreal Avenue.
McOrmond Drive will also be closed overnight from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., beginning the week of July 20, from Willowgrove Boulevard to Addison Road in the northbound direction and southbound, from Nelson Road to Kerr Road.
The overnight work is designed to “reduce impacts on motorists and traffic flow,” the city explained.
The work on McOrmond Drive is expected to take about eight days, weather permitting and subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances, the city said.
“Residents in the area can expect increased noise and vibration while heavy equipment is in operation,” according to the city.
Road resurfacing work removes old asphalt that has deteriorated and replaces it with a new layer of hot asphalt mix. The city said this treatment is used to replace an asphalt surface once it has reached the end of its service life, but the road structure underneath is still in good condition.
“Closure end times are weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances,” the city said in its releases, adding that detour signs will be in place to guide motorists.
“Drivers are encouraged to slow down, follow all posted signage and use caution when travelling through the work zone. The public is also encouraged to watch for a project schedule graphic on the City’s social media channels outlining the planned phases of construction,” the city noted with regards to the McOrmond Drive work, specifically.
Saskatoon transit might be impacted by the closures and detours.
The city thanked residents for patience as this work is being completed.
