A stolen vehicle report on Sunday night quickly devolved into a chaotic downtown scene involving an owner trying to intervene, a near-miss with an officer, a car crash and a Taser deployment, police said on Monday,.
Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said in a June 15 news release the incident began around 6:55 p.m. on June 14 when officers received a report of a stolen vehicle.

About two hours later, SPS said officers spotted the vehicle and pulled it over at the busy intersection of 22nd Street and Idylwyld Drive North.
While trying to arrest the driver, police said the 27-year-old woman who owned the vehicle suddenly arrived at the scene and tried to pull the driver out of the car herself.
The suspect behind the wheel drove off, nearly hitting a police officer in the process, SPS said. The getaway was short-lived, however, as police said the driver blew through a red light at 22nd Street and 1st Avenue, crashing into another vehicle.
Paramedics took the driver in the vehicle that was hit to hospital. No information was given about their condition.
SPS said the suspect dumped the stolen car and ran away, but officers caught up with him a short time later and a Taser was used to subdue and arrest him.
Investigators believe the suspect and the vehicle owner know each other.
A 27-year-old man faces a laundry list of charges including vehicle theft, running from police, assaulting a police officer, impaired driving, and breaking court conditions.
The 27-year-old female vehicle owner was also arrested and charged with obstruction.
Animal abuse charges laid
A Saskatoon man is facing criminal charges after police were called to a Evergreen neighbourhood apartment building for a report of a dog being abused on Friday.
SPS said in a June 15 news release that officers were sent to a building in the 400 block of Maningas Bend around 7:25 p.m. on June 12 after receiving reports that a man was assaulting his dog.
SPS said a 53-year-old man was arrested, and inside the apartment, officers found and seized several firearms, saying the the man’s firearms licence (PAL) had been expired for several years.
The man has been charged with firearms offences and intentionally causing unnecessary pain to his dog by kicking and choking it and is scheduled to make his first appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court on July 20.
