A 43-year-old man is facing a manslaughter charge after a stabbing death at an apartment in Melfort on Saturday.
According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, police were called to the apartment on Broadway Avenue shortly after noon after getting a report of a person being assaulted with a weapon.

“Initial investigation has determined an altercation occurred between two adult men in the apartment. During the altercation, one of the men stabbed the other,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“The injured male was transported to the hospital by EMS, where he later died.”
Police identified the victim as 36-year-old Sam Stonestand, a resident of Melfort.
In addition to the manslaughter charge, the alleged perpetrator is also facing three charges of failing to comply with a release order, the RCMP added.
He was scheduled to appear in provincial court in Melfort on Monday morning, police noted.
