Roughly 3,000 people in the Outlook area are without water after their community’s water distribution system was tampered with.
An emergency advisory was issued on Monday morning for the town of Outlook and the RM of Rudy, southwest of Saskatoon.

Kevin Trew, the chief administrative officer for the community of Outlook, said that the town made the discovery early Monday morning.
“Early this morning, our staff discovered that our water distribution system has been compromised — that means that there has been criminal activity,” he said.
Little is known about the extent of the tampering, but Trew said the RCMP has been notified and is investigating.
“Our treated water distribution system has been compromised, so therefore we have to shut the water down, so the water distribution system for the town of Outlook is completely shut off at this time,” he said.

Trew said it’s too early to say when the water supply will be turned on again.
“We are looking to restore our water distribution as soon as possible, but we are looking at hours of having no water distribution,” he said.
“It will be hours because we have to drain the water out of the distribution system – all of the water – and then we have to treat the water, and we have to sanitize the distribution system, and then we have to treat the water, so it will be hours,” said Trew.
He said Outlook’s town council will hold an emergency meeting “shortly” to discuss the next steps.
Trew advised residents who are currently without water to make arrangements to access a portable water supply in the meantime.
