A Loraas Disposal driver helped put out a car fire in Saskatoon’s Forest Grove neighbourhood on Tuesday.
According to the City of Saskatoon, firefighters were called to the 100 block of Cruise Street just before 10 a.m.

“A Loraas driver who was picking up bins saw the fire and deployed a dry chemical extinguisher, which helped slow the fire’s spread, and instructed the neighbor to call 911,” the City of Saskatoon said in a statement.
“The vehicle owner was alerted by a neighbor that the car was on fire.”
When the firefighters arrived they could see smoke and flames coming from the vehicle’s engine compartment, and they were able to extinguish the blaze.
According to an email from the vehicle’s owner, the cause of the fire was likely an issue with the block heater.
The owner thanked the fast-acting disposal driver for helping to keep the fire under control and preventing it from spreading further.
