For the second time in two weeks, the Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed a Green and White Day.
Alana Ross, Saskatchewan’s minister of parks, culture and sport, signed a proclamation declaring the special day on Friday as the Saskatchewan Roughriders get ready to take on the Montreal Alouettes in the Grey Cup game on Sunday.

The provincial government designated last Friday as Green and White Day as well, in an effort to get the province united behind the Riders ahead of the CFL West Final, and Premier Scott Moe was joined by mascot Gainer the Gopher in signing the proclamation. The Riders won that game 24-21 against the B.C. Lions, punching their ticket to the Grey Cup in Winnipeg.
Fans across Saskatchewan are encouraged to wear their Rider gear – or anything in the team’s colours – on Friday to show their support for the team.
“Rider Nation, it is time to show our support for the Roughriders as they get set to battle the Alouettes for the CFL’s greatest prize – the Grey Cup,” Ross said in a statement.
“As part of Green and White Day in Saskatchewan, residents throughout the province are encouraged to wear the team’s colours. So, let’s show off our Rider pride ahead of Sunday’s big game. Go Riders!”
The Riders haven’t been to the championship game since 2013, when they beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 45-23 to claim the cup at Mosaic Stadium.
Kickoff for the Grey Cup on Sunday is set for 5 p.m. The Green Zone’s pregame show gets rolling at 3 p.m.
While many Roughrider fans are making the trip to Winnipeg to watch their team play for the Grey Cup, others are hosting watch parties in their home province. One of those parties has a uniquely Saskatchewan twist – in Canwood, the game will be projected onto the side of the village’s grain elevator.
Saskatchewan is set to host the Grey Cup in 2027 at Mosaic Stadium.
