Two young Saskatoon boys found themselves in handcuffs on Thursday afternoon after allegedly trying to rob a man using a fake firearm.
According to police, officers were called to the 300 block of Avenue Q North, in the city’s Mount Royal neighbourhood, at around 1 p.m. after getting a report of a group of youths who were armed with a weapon.

“Officers arrived to the area and learned that a man had been walking on Rusholme Road when he was approached by a group of youth who produced a firearm and threatened him with it before the victim fled,” the Saskatoon Police Service explained in a statement.
“Additional arriving officers located the suspects nearby and affected their arrests without incident; an imitation firearm was located on one of their persons.”
Both boys were charged with uttering death threats and attempted robbery with a firearm, while the 13-year-old was also charged with possession of a weapon to commit an offence and unauthorized carry of a concealed weapon.
Saskatoon man arrested after allegedly breaking into apartment with machete
A 31-year-old Saskatoon man is facing charges after he allegedly bear sprayed people inside a vehicle, then used a machete to break into an apartment.
According to police, officers were called to the apartment in the 2300 block of 17th Street West at around 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Police said the report indicated that a man had sprayed the irritant chemical into a vehicle “with multiple occupants” before using a machete to shatter the window of an apartment and climbing inside.
The responding officers surrounded the building, and police said the man surrendered and was arrested without further incident following “a short negotiation.”
The 31-year-old man is now charged with three counts of assault, breaking and entering with intent, two counts of possessing a weapon to commit an offence, mischief under $5,000 and failing to comply with court-ordered conditions.
