Saskatoon’s spring and summer construction season is always busy, but possibly even more so this year.
It includes construction on the Broadway Bridge, which began on May 12, a variety of resurfacing projects, and this year, the city is also building 44 new bus stations and platforms.

Construction on the newer, wider, accessible, and night-visible stations began in 2024, and six of them have been built.
This year, dozens more are being constructed across the city, according to Rob Dudiak, City of Saskatoon special projects manager.
“This summer is probably the single most locations that we’ll do in a single summer. We have 44 locations. We should essentially end up with about 50 platforms — the concrete construction of those platforms finished by the end of the year,” he said.
Dudiak noted that Saskatoon’s construction season typically ends in October.

According to Terry Schmidt, transportation and construction general manager for the City of Saskatoon, the work to build the new platforms involves pouring a new concrete pad and a concrete approach “runway” next to the road, adding an accessible point for wheelchairs and other mobility equipment, and a bright tactile strip on the curb that helps outline the platform and make it visible to drivers.
He that said in the future bus shelters and other “furniture” will also be built on the platforms.
The work is all part of Saskatoon’s $250 million Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project that’s expected to launch in 2028. So far, the city says construction is on time.
During the 2026 construction season, work will begin on College Drive Between Clarence Avenue South, and Preston Avenue South.
There, the pedestrian overpass will be demolished and a new street-level pedestrian crossing will be added. Dedicated bus lanes will run in the centre of the road, with vehicle traffic lanes on the outside.
