Sara Tohamy, senior manager with FlixBus, thinks the service will fill a big need in the province.
“Travellers are going to have a really new and exciting and, most importantly, affordable way to get between Saskatchewan and Alberta,” said Tohamy on The Evan Bray Show Monday.
Listen to Sara Tohamy on The Evan Bray Show:
“We really believe that this is a big moment for Saskatchewan, because for years people haven’t had really a simple way to travel across provinces without having to rely on a car, even expensive flights. We’re really excited here at FlixBus to be changing that,” Tohamy said.
She said the buses will be stopping at major landmarks like the University of Saskatchewan and University of Regina going both ways.
Tohamy suggested the biggest thing people will like about the bus is its affordability.
“We really pride ourselves on offering an affordable form of transportation, even for these long distances. I can certainly say that we have competitive rates when you’re comparing it to a flight certainly,” she said.
“We know that flights have become extremely expensive these days and here at FlixBus, we really pride ourselves on offering an affordable and accessible means of transportation.
“… we’re trying to make this kind of transportation available for anyone, regardless of whether you’re a student, you’re looking to visit family, you’re travelling for work or maybe medical reasons,” she added.
Ticket prices will cost $93 one-way from Regina to Edmonton, and $63 one-way from Saskatoon to Edmonton.
Passengers can book tickets on the FlixBus website, or using the FlixBus app.
Flix buses are regular coaches and carry about 50 passengers.
“We recognize that transportation is really critical to a lot of people and we need our price points to reflect those,” Tohamy added.
FlixBus already services Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia.
