Two men are facing charges after allegedly assaulting a cab driver in Saskatoon on Friday night.
Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said in a news release on May 12 that officers were patrolling near Rusholme Road and Avenue X North in the city’s Mount Royal neighbourhood on May 9 when they spotted two men who were “known to have assaulted a taxi driver a few days earlier.”

One of them was arrested without incident, police said, while the other was apprehended after a foot chase.
According to police, the men were carrying a significant quantity of drugs.
“Police found the men to both be in possession of cocaine upon their arrest; a total of 680 grams was seized,” SPS said in the release.
The men, ages 22 and 23, were each charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, resisting arrest and possession of the proceeds of crime. The younger man was also charged with assault and possession of methamphetamine.
Man charged with assault after woman injured
A 29-year-old man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and breaching court-imposed conditions after a woman was injured on Sunday evening.
SPS said in a news release on May 12 that said officers were called to the 200 block of Lochrie Crescent in Fairhaven at around 6:15 p.m. on May 11 and found a woman who had been assaulted.
The woman, aged 32, was taken to hospital with minor injuries, police said, and the man was arrested at the scene. Police said the victim and her alleged assailant were known to each other.
16-year-old facing charges after bear-spraying
A 16-year-old youth has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon to commit an offence, unauthorized carry of a concealed weapon, and possession of stolen property under $5000 after another youth was bear sprayed on Friday night.
SPS said in a news release on May 12 that they did not believe the May 9 incident was random and officers were called around 9:30 p.m. to the 100 block of 2nd Avenue North and found the victim suffering from the effects of bear spray.
Police said they then found a person matching the suspect’s description on a city bus in the 2400 block of 22nd Street West and a can of bear spray was located under the seat.
Weyburn man charged with child exploitation
The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has charged a 45-year-old Weyburn man with child exploitation offences after an online investigation into child luring that began in February 2024.
SPS said in a news release on May 12 that ICE searched a home in Weyburn and charged the man with four counts of child luring on May 9 as well as seizing electronic devices.
The man appeared in court on May 9, police said, and has been released on numerous conditions. His next court appearance is set for is June 24.
‘Unknown problem’ leads to 25 charges for Saskatoon man
A 38-year-old man is facing a total of 25 charges after police were called to the 300 block of 4th Avenue North in downtown Saskatoon for an unknown problem on Saturday afternoon.
SPS said in a news release on May 12 that when officers went to the area around 2:45 p.m. on May 10 “for a report of an unknown problem” they found the man who was believed to be in possession of weapons.
Police said officers found the man was concealing two knives in his waistband and also found an air gun revolver, ammunition, additional knives, multiple cell phones, methamphetamine packaged for distribution, body armour, cash, and identity documents belonging to other people.
A search warrant was executed on the man’s vehicle, SPS said, and they seized a loaded sawed-off rifle, machete and hatchet.
Police did not detail the man’s charges.
Woman charged with break and enter
A 21-year-old woman has been charged with breaking and entering and theft after police said she tried to break-in to the same apartment twice on Saturday afternoon.
SPS said in a news release on May 12 that officers were called to a suite in an apartment building in the 100 block of Avenue P South around 3:30 p.m. on May 10 and found a damaged window. Police said three suspects had run away before they arrived.
Shortly before 5:30 p.m., police said they were told that one of the suspects had returned. They then found and located arrested her.
