Eight people are set to receive Saskatchewan’s highest honour at a ceremony early next month.
The provincial government announced the list of recipients for the Saskatchewan Order of Merit this week, saying the “outstanding individuals” will receive the medal at a special ceremony in early June. This year’s ceremony will be a special one, as it marks the 40th anniversary of the order of merit.

“It is a privilege to present the Saskatchewan Order of Merit to these eight people who have made such meaningful contributions to our province,” Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre said in a statement.
“Like previous recipients of the medal over the past 40 years, their accomplishments are an inspiration to us all.”
The 2025 recipients are Dr. Ernest Barber (Saskatoon), Janet Carriere (Prince Albert), Brent Cotter (Saskatoon), Dr. Haissam Haddad (Saskatoon), Ann Phillips (Regina), Ellen Remai (Saskatoon), Robert Stromberg (Saskatoon) and Senapan Thunder (Thunderchild First Nation).
The order of merit was first established in 1985 as a way to celebrate excellence and achievements by residents of the province.
The provincial government said 282 individuals have been admitted to the order “in recognition of their significant contributions in areas such as agriculture, business, industry, community leadership, public service, art, research and volunteering.”
