Kinsmen Home Lottery is asking for the community’s support as its final deadline approaches for the $1.4 million show home.
For the past 96 years, the lottery has raised more than $16 million for community organizations in Saskatoon. The funds support causes like education, athletics, music and the arts.
This year the lottery has partnered with CHEP Good Food Inc. to fund school programs that provide families and individuals with nutrition education and food security. For over 30 years, the women-based organization has been pooling resources to provide Saskatoon with healthy food options.
“We thought having a focus with schools, inner city kids, (and) having food in the schools was so important,” said Pat Kolysher, Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon Home Lottery Chair.
Kolysher said feeding the community is important because they are the foundation of Saskatoon.
A Second Harvest survey from 2023 estimated that Canadian charitable organizations would serve 60 per cent more people, on top of the 134 per cent increase in 2022. Currently, the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre serves almost 8,000 clients each month.
Past beneficiaries of the Kinsmen Home Lottery include Elmwood Residences and Kinsmen Manor, Broadway Theatre, Sanctum Care Group, SaskLung and the Saskatoon SPCA. Lottery proceeds have also gone toward care for the elderly and those living with special needs, as well as providing clothing to less-fortunate people around the community.
