The children’s festival in Saskatoon is underway at Kinsmen Park.
There has been strong wind blowing throughout Bridge City during the festival.
Paige Unruh, marketing and communications manager said the wind has affected some events.
“Some of the activities we can’t actually run when the winds are super high,” said Unruh. “So play land which is the big bouncy castle we actually had to close that down.”
Unruh said that was a decision made in the interest of the safety of children.
The tents have also been tied down with more force and the banners have extra zip ties on them.
While the wind has brought some negative impacts towards the festival it has actually helped out one act in particular.
“The one thing the wind has been good for has been the bubble-roving performers,” said Unruh. “There’s one of our artists who just blows giant bubbles and the wind goes really well with that.”
Other roving performances have been popular as well as dance land.
“They’ve been running some sort of dance workshops,” said Unruh. “Between hip hop and hula hooping.”
The rainbow tent has also returned this year.
Last year the tent sparked controversy after an email that was sent to the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools was leaked online.
The email urged staff to ask students to avoid that tent.
Unruh said it was great to see the tent back.
“It’s just really a place we want kids to be themselves,” said Unruh.
There are also some evening performances as well at the Blue Sky stage and the Children’s festival ends on Sunday.
