The ribbon has been cut at the new location for the Saskatoon SPCA in the North end of the city near the airport.
This is the first time in over 30 years that the SPCA has actually operated inside of Saskatoon.
Fred Dyck, Executive Director at the Saskatoon SPCA, said the northern location was important.
“First off we wanted to be in Saskatoon,” said Dyck. “The north end is important to us, we know that some of our neighbours of the city … they could use some help.”

The new location is a bit smaller but Dyck said it is a lot more efficient.
“We’ve prioritized high standards in animal welfare and care,” said Dyck. “We believe it’s a great facility to house animals, the weight on us of responsibility while the animal is in our care, is to give that animal as good and positive of an experience as it can and this facility does that.”
The shelter includes a flex room, which is a room for a dog or cat that needs special care, as well as meet and greet rooms.
“That allows us to put a family or an individual in a room with a dog,” said Dyck.
Dyck said the organization feels a lot more freed up with the new location being up and operational.
The SPCA averages three to four adoptions a day.
