People in Saskatoon will be greeted with a brand new market on Saturday.
Gather Local Market will be operating at River Landing at the old location of the city’s farmer’s market.
Adrea Propp, operations manager for Gather Local Market, said the new offering at the intersection of Avenue B and 19th Street in Saskatoon will be the first of its kind in the province.
“Gather Local Market is Saskatchewan’s first public market that will have up to eight restaurant vendors in it,” said Propp.
“We will have retail spaces going around the perimeter, and we are really excited to have Saskatchewan grocery facilitated by SaskMade Marketplace.”
Lucky Bastard Distillery will also be included in new market.
“They’re going to have their spirits available to have cocktails and mocktails on site,” Propp explained.
“They’re going to be carrying a rotating menu of different Saskatchewan brewed goods.”
The doors will open with a celebration on Saturday.
“This Saturday specifically, we also have a petting zoo,” said Propp. “There’s going to be face painting, there’s going to be food, and there’s going to be drinks.”
Both the indoor and outdoor market are going to be up and running on Saturday as well.
The indoor market will be open Tuesdays through Sundays, year round. The outdoor market is a seasonal market, which will be open on Tuesday evenings and Saturdays from May through September.
Propp said there will be noticeable differences between Gather Local Market and the farmer’s market that used to occupy the site.
“I would say we are different in the concept of having a fully activated, six-days-a-week space,” said Propp. “And really just facilitating that entrepreneurship side, outside of the farmed goods.”
Propp said everyone involved in the new market can’t wait to welcome people from Saskatoon through its doors.
