A fire at a boarded-up Saskatoon home on Wednesday left behind an estimated $10,000 in damages.
According to the fire department, crews responded to reports of smoke coming from a house on Avenue O South in the city’s Pleasant Hill neighbourhood just before 9:30 a.m. Three fire engines, a ladder unit, a rescue unit and a battalion chief all responded.
“On arrival, it was identified that the structure was vacant and boarded,” the fire department noted.
“Upon entry into the structure, fire crews identified a small fire on the main floor. The fire was quickly brought under control at 9:44 a.m.”

A fire investigator concluded that the fire originated on the home’s main floor in a wood-burning fireplace.
“Indications at the fire scene were that occupants were possibly inside the structure prior to SFD’s arrival but not definite,” the fire department said.
The home has since been secured and turned over to an agent for the property owner, the fire department said, and anyone with information on the fire was asked to contact the Saskatoon Police Service.
