Saskatoon police are investigating after a loaded gun was found at a Fairhaven elementary school.
The weapon was found on Wednesday morning at St. Mark School.
Derrick Kunz with Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools said in a statement that the gun was found and secured before any students arrived for the day, and that the safety of the students and staff at the school wasn’t compromised.

According to a statement from the Saskatoon Police Service, the gun was a loaded, .22-calibre rifle.
The school division wouldn’t say where on the school’s grounds the gun was found.
For parents of students who attend the school, the news was a shock to the system and was really concerning to hear.
“I am actually pretty shocked. Both my kids go to this school and hearing that there was a loaded gun found on the premises is kind of scary,” said Brendon King, “especially with the shelter just being down the street.”
King said he’s also concerned about the safety of staff and those who live in the surrounding apartment buildings.
King added that up until this point, he didn’t have any concerns about the safety of his kids at this school.
“I know the teachers and the staff and the principal do the best that they can to make sure that the kids are safe,” said King.
A group of students told 650 CKOM they’re concerned for their safety, but this recent scare isn’t anything new for them.
