A 20-year-old man is facing a number of weapons-related charges after allegedly pointing a gun at two people in Saskatoon early Thursday.
According to police, officers were dispatched at about 1:30 a.m., to the 900 block of 22nd Street West in the Riversdale neighbourhood for a report of a man pointing a gun at people.
Officers saw the man going into and leaving a yard in the 100 block of Avenue J South. When police told him to stop, he allegedly got into what police called “a brief struggle with officers” before being taken into custody.
Police said a subsequent search of the man found several rounds of ammunition, and a sawed-off .22-calibre rifle was found in the yard he had been seen entering on Avenue J South.
In addition to the gun charges, the man is facing charges of assault with a weapon, resisting arrest and failing to comply with court-imposed conditions. He also was detained on outstanding warrants for forcible confinement and assault.
