Firefighters at the scene of an industrial fire in Saskatoon are battling difficult conditions in cold weather.
Fire crews were called to a structure fire on McLeod Avenue in the city’s southwest industrial area just after 5 a.m. on Tuesday, and a second call came from an employee who said flames were visible inside the building’s walls.
Firefighters quickly spotted the fire burning through a crack in the walls, the fire department said, then found that the blaze had spread to the roof as well.

The extreme cold means firefighters are facing more difficulties than usual while battling the fire.
“Due to the size of the structure and the weather conditions, the fire crews are being challenged,” the fire department said in a statement.
“The fire crews are dealing with a fire in a difficult to access location, hose lines freezing, slippery conditions, and maintaining the safety of everyone on scene.”
An update on the fire will be provided once more information is available, the fire department noted.
On Friday, firefighters in Saskatoon had to brave the cold to fight a major fire on three floors of a local flour mill. That blaze left behind an estimated $5 million in damages.
