A two-alarm fire at a Saskatoon flour mill last week left behind millions of dollars in damage.
On Friday morning, firefighters were called to the P&H Milling facility on 33rd Street East where they found a fire burning on the fourth, fifth and sixth floors. The fire was contained by the early afternoon, with nobody injured.
In an update on Tuesday, the Saskatoon Fire Department said the cause was accidental.
“The fire originated in a piece on machinery on the fourth floor of the structure, a malfunction of the machine created the point of ignition,” the fire department explained.
“The fire traveled through the mill process piping and spread to the sixth floor, which sustained considerable damage.”
The fire department estimated that the damage will exceed $5 million.
During the fire, the fire department made use of a drone provided by the city police service to examine the facility’s roof and ensure the fire was contained on the lower floors.
