The Cut Knife RCMP says the death of a 31-year-old man on the Poundmaker First Nation is “suspicious in nature.”
In a media release Wednesday, the Mounties said officers responded Monday at around 4 p.m., to a call about a body that was found in a rural area on the First Nation. The Poundmaker First Nation is roughly 60 kilometres west of North Battleford.
The Saskatchewan Coroners Service and the RCMP’s Major Crimes unit have identified the body as that of Lee Bearsears of the Little Pine First Nation.
Police didn’t say when Bearsears was killed or what caused his death.
“Major Crimes continue to work diligently to determine the circumstances leading to Lee’s death, which investigators have determined is suspicious in nature,” the release said.
“There is currently an increased police presence on Poundmaker First Nation and Little Pine First Nation in relation to this ongoing investigation.”
The RCMP asked anyone who has information about Bearsear’s whereabouts this month, or about his death, to call Major Crimes at 639-625-4535 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
