Prairieland Park is hosting its annual Junior Ag Showcase this week.
The event kicked off Wednesday and runs until Monday.
The first two days feature horse shows for young riders before getting into a team grooming competition, a dairy show, a sheep show and then a final steer sale.
“Our horse show is in the mid-week for the light horse, because most of these girls are competing in rodeos, performance horse shows on the weekends,” said Leigh Ann Hurlburt, Prairieland’s agriculture manager.
One of the more popular shows is the sheep show, where participants will dress up in costumes along with their sheep.
“The younger kids bring their lamb and they have a fun little competition at the end. So the lambs are dressed up and so are the exhibitors,” Hurlburt explained.
On the final day, the young farmers sell steers, and the proceeds help them afford new equipment and further their education.
More information about the shows is available on their website.
