SaskTel is supporting Ukrainians coming to Saskatchewan with a big donation, waived fees, and free wireless service.
Through contributions from the company, employees, and the SaskTel Pioneers, the Crown corporation raised $50,000 which will be donated to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. The funds will help support Ukrainians who come to Saskatchewan after fleeing the conflict in their homeland.
SaskTel also introduced a special offer to Ukrainians settling in the province that will provide them with free, prepaid wireless service until the end of September. The offer is valid starting July 4, SaskTel said, and anyone wishing to take advantage of it can visit a SaskTel store for more details.
“Our government is committed to welcoming as many Ukrainians as possible to Saskatchewan, and SaskTel’s donation to the UCC will help these newcomers settle in our safe and friendly province,” Don Morgan, minister responsible for SaskTel said in a statement.
SaskTel also announced that it will continue to waive all international long-distance charges and text messaging fees for calls and texts sent to Ukraine. The company has been waiving these fees since late February, and will continue to do so until the end of September.
Ukrainian Canadian Congress of Saskatchewan President Elena Krueger said her organization is grateful for the donation, which she said will help Ukrainians as they work to get settled in the province.
“These funds will make an important contribution to assisting Ukrainian families arriving to our province to access essentials such as food, clothing, and safe shelter, while they heal from the traumatic experiences they’ve all endured,” Krueger said in a media release.
