8:30 – Liberal MP Anthony Housefather says Canada needs a new weapon to police disinformation on social media. Writing in the National Post, Housefather proposed an independent institution that would report to Parliament after gathering and analyzing information from social media. While some say this move would come as a blow to freedom of speech in Canada, Housefather says we simply can’t allow social media companies to regulate themselves.
