The Family Day weekend will also be another free fishing weekend in Saskatchewan.
The provincial government announced Thursday that from Feb. 13-15, residents and visitors to the province can fish without having to buy a fishing licence.
Free fishing weekend applies only to provincial bodies of water outside of national parks that have an open sport fishing season.
“Every year, more than a quarter of a million anglers enjoy Saskatchewan’s world-class fishery,” Environment Minister Warren Kaeding said in a media release. “Free fishing weekend is a great time to enjoy the outdoors and experience ice fishing, perhaps for the first time.”
Possession limits and reduced limits on some lakes and rivers will still apply. As well, anyone planning to take fish out of the province must have a valid Saskatchewan angling licence during the weekend.
Participants also are reminded to check for the necessary ice thickness before venturing onto lakes and rivers.
