The population of Martensville is set to double in the next 25-years.
The city along with Canwest Commercial and Land Corp and North Prairie Developments unveiled plans Wednesday for a massive new sub-division west of Highway 12.
The 680 acre Trilogy Ranch project is projected to increase the bedroom community’s population by 10,000 people and create 500 new jobs.
Mayor Kent Muench says the residential and commercial development will completely change the landscape of Martensville
“It’s probably going to be close to $1.5 billion worth of investment. For Martensville, that’s a pretty large investment into our community.”
A main anchor for the new sub-division will be the future multi-purpose facility.
The 5 acres the facility will sit on was donated by Canwest and North Prairie Developments.
Muench said now having a location for the facility means they are closer to breaking ground on the first phase of the project that includes an arena, full-sized soccer pitch and field house.
A new recreational facility is something badly needed with one-third of the city’s residents under the age of 19.
“I think our community rents out 1,200 hours in our current rink. There is very limited public skating, adult and female hockey. We don’t have tournaments in our community. That rink is completely full,” said Muench.
The Martensville Community Recreation Project (MRCP), a local volunteer-led charity, has raised over $365,000 for the new facility.
Chair Jesse Reis said it is welcome news for their group which has been fundraising for over five years.
“We still have a long way to go but this announcement and this partnership will make our dream a reality.”
