Five new COVID-19 cases in Sask.; Saskatoon outbreak declared over

Saskatchewan reported five new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.

The new cases — four in the far north and one in the Saskatoon area — increased the total number of cases in the province to date to 751.

The provincial government also announced the outbreak declared in Saskatoon on May 27 is over. The Saskatchewan Health Authority made the declaration after a number of new cases were reported following two large family gatherings.

There weren’t any recoveries announced Monday, leaving that number at 643 so far. To date, 13 residents of the province have died due to complications from the coronavirus.

The number of active cases in Saskatchewan is now 95, including 48 in the far north, 34 in the south, nine in Saskatoon, two in the north and two non-Saskatchewan residents who tested positive in the province.

Three people — two in the south and one in Saskatoon — are receiving inpatient care in hospital.

Of the total number of cases, 452 are community contacts, 157 are travellers, 98 don’t have any known exposures and 44 are being investigated by local public health.

The total includes 53 health-care workers.

There have been 305 cases from the far north, 186 are in the Saskatoon area, 113 are from the north, 80 are in the Regina area, 53 are from the south and 12 are in the central region.

There have been 259 cases in the 20-to-39 age range, 237 between the ages of 40 and 59, 125 in the 60-to-79 age range, 109 involving people 19 and under, and 21 in the 80-and-over range.

There were 720 tests performed in the province on Sunday, increasing the total to date to 60,780.
